Stories first.
Everything we build serves the story. If a feature, mechanic, or platform decision does not make the fiction stronger, we cut it.
About the studio
Darkframe Studio is an independent narrative studio building immersive alternate reality experiences — stories that step out of the screen and into the rest of your life.
We believe the most powerful stories aren't watched — they're inhabited. Darkframe exists to build the kind of fiction that follows you home: that calls your phone, slips notes under your door, hides in the websites you visit, and rewards you for paying attention. We want to make stories that feel less like entertainment and more like something that's actually happening to you.
Darkframe began as a single late-night experiment — a website that didn't quite explain itself, a phone number that shouldn't have answered, and a small group of strangers piecing together what it all meant. The reaction told us everything: people are starving for stories that trust them, that hide things on purpose, that ask them to look closer. We started Darkframe to build more of those.
Each Darkframe project is its own self-contained world — a long-form narrative threaded through websites, audio, video, puzzles, real-world artifacts, and a community of readers solving it together. We don't think of them as games. We think of them as stories you happen to be inside of.
Everything we build serves the story. If a feature, mechanic, or platform decision does not make the fiction stronger, we cut it.
We do not over-explain, hand-hold, or lower the bar. Our readers are smart. We write for them.
A Darkframe story rewards attention. There is always more under the surface, and there is always a reason it is there.
We design every project as a real place first, and only then let the story bleed out of it.
No Darkframe project is solved alone. The conversation between readers is canon.
We answer to our readers, not to a publisher. That is the entire point.
Darkframe is small on purpose. Every project is hand-built by a tight core team and a rotating cast of collaborators credited per story.
Creative Director
Leads the overall narrative vision, designing long-term story arcs, seasonal structure, and multiple endings. Defines the core themes, player journey, and decision frameworks that shape how the story unfolds over time. Ensures all narrative elements work together cohesively, guiding the direction of the project from initial concept through to final resolution.
Narrative Systems Architect
Designs the structure and pacing of each episode, mapping out how scenes, choices, and tension unfold over time. Shapes the rhythm of the experience to maintain engagement, ensuring every moment builds toward meaningful decisions and strong cliffhangers. Also defines how each story exists in the real world, including entry points, website structure, and the overall player journey into the narrative.
Narrative Communications Specialist
Writes all in-world communications that connect the audience to characters and events outside of core scenes. Develops messages, emails, system alerts, and narrative updates that make the world feel alive and responsive. Shapes character voice through ongoing dialogue, ensuring every interaction feels personal, believable, and aligned with the evolving story.
Narrative Continuity Director
Safeguards the integrity of the story universe by ensuring all content aligns with established lore, character behaviour, and timeline logic. Reviews scenes, systems, and narrative elements to catch inconsistencies, contradictions, or gaps. Maintains the evolving story bible and ensures that every new addition strengthens, rather than breaks, the world’s internal logic.
Interactive Experience Designer
Creates puzzles and interactive mechanics that feel like natural extensions of the story world. Designs challenges, systems, and item interactions that deepen immersion while reinforcing narrative stakes. Ensures every interaction has purpose, balancing difficulty, clarity, and storytelling so that solving something always feels meaningful and grounded in the world.
Production & Asset Pipeline Lead
Oversees the full production pipeline, from generating detailed visual asset briefs to preparing story content for platform delivery. Translates narrative and scene design into precise prompts for image and video creation, while also validating, structuring, and packaging all content to meet technical requirements. Ensures everything is production-ready, consistent, and ready to ship without errors.
Our long-term goal is simple: to make Darkframe Studio one of the best places in the world to experience interactive fiction. That means more stories, longer arcs, deeper community tools, and a platform that treats every reader as a participant — not an audience. We are just getting started.
